Ten Hot n’ Ready Meals to Make in the Back of Your Car

For­get fast food and gas sta­tion bur­ri­tos the next time you’re en route to some dis­tant trail­head. Save mon­ey and taste-buds by pack­ing the nec­es­sary ingre­di­ents to pre­pare these ten amaz­ing meals, all of which you can make from the back of your vehicle.

Break­fast: Hang­Dog Oatmeal 

Ingre­di­ents

  • 2 1/2 cups Oatmeal
  •  2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Dried Bananas
  • 3/4 cup Choco­late Chips

Direc­tions

  • Com­bine into zip lock bag, add hot-water, enjoy!

Lunch Snack: Spicy Maple Chex Mix

Ingre­di­ents 

  • 9 cups Rice Chex
  • 9 cups Wheat Chex
  • 9 cups Mini Pret­zels or Pret­zel Sticks
  • 6 cups Cashews
  • 1 cup But­ter or Margarine
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1/3 cup Soy Sauce
  • 3 tbsp Sir­acha (more or less to taste)
  • Salt and Pep­per to Taste

Direc­tions

  • Pre­heat oven to 275
  • Com­bine Cere­al, Pret­zels, and Cashews
  • Sim­mer But­ter, Maple Syrup, Soy Sauce, & Sir­acha all togeth­er — add to cere­al mix
  • Bake on Bak­ing Pans for approx­i­mate­ly 35 min­utes or until toasted
  • Cool, put in bag, and pack for a spicy snack

Din­ner: GoB­lue Fredo

Ingre­di­ents

  • 1 box Mac­a­roni with Pow­dered White Cheddar
  • 1 cup Dried Corn
  • 1 tbsp Dried Basil
  • 8 ounces Smoked Salmon, Tuna, or Chicken

Direc­tions

  • Car­ry the Mac­a­roni, Dried Corn & Basil, and Smoked Salmon in sep­a­rate zip-lock bags.
  • Boil water, cook Macaroni
  • Add oth­er ingre­di­ents to cooked pasta

Ingre­di­ents

  • 1/2 cups Couscous
  • 1/3 cup Dried Milk
  • 1 tbsp Raisins
  • 1 tbsp Salt­ed Pis­ta­chios, chopped
  • 2–3 tspn Sugar
  • a pinch of Cardamom
  • 1 1/3 cup Water

  • Add hot water on the trail

Lunch: Smoky Crackers

Ingre­di­ents

  • 1  — 3.75 ounce Smoked Oys­ters Can
  • 4 ounces Smoked Ched­dar Cheese, sliced
  • Crack­ers of your choice

Direc­tions

  • Pop the top of the oys­ter can, grab a slice of cheese, add both to crack­er, mmmh.…oysters

Din­ner: Alpine Pasta

Ingre­di­ents

  • 2 But­ter and Herb Pas­ta Packets
  • 4 ounces Pep­per Coat­ed Sala­mi, diced
  • 2 ounce Sun-Dried Tomato
  • 6 Green Onions, Chopped
  • 5 ounces grat­ed Cheese

Direc­tions

  • Store Toma­toes, Pas­ta, and oth­er Ingre­di­ents separately
  • Add 1 cup boil­ing water to tomatoes
  • Boil water and cook Pas­ta accordingly
  • Add chopped, hydrat­ed toma­toes and oth­er ingre­di­ents after 5 min­utes of cooking

  • 1 large Flour Tortilla
  • 1 sin­gle serv­ing Straw­ber­ry Cream Cheese Packet
  • 1 Banana

Lunch Bar: No Bake Peanut But­ter Ener­gy Bars

Ingre­di­ents 

  • 1 cup Peanut Butter
  • 3/4 cup Honey
  • 3 cups Instant Oatmeal

Direc­tions

  • Com­bine peanut but­ter and hon­ey in medi­um saucepan
  • Warm over low heat and stir until mixed com­plete­ly — remove from heat
  • Add oat­meal and Stir
  • Let cool and cut into deli­cious ener­gy bars

Ingre­di­ents

  • 2 cups Macaroni
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1/2 tspn Salt
  • Pinch of Nut­meg (option­al)
  • 1/2 cup Dried Milk
  • 1 cup Shred­ded Sharp Cheddar
  • Salt and Pep­per to taste

Direc­tions

  • Com­bine Mac­a­roni, Water, But­ter, Salt, & Nut­meg to Pot
  • Cook on low until almost done
  • Add in Milk Pow­der, cook until done
  • Take off heat, add Shred­ded Cheese
