Travel Journal: Jordan & Egypt

Tiphareth Star — Hairstylist, sun seeker, and explorer. I was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, and currently reside in Los Angeles, California.

Why Egypt & Jordan?
I literally kept seeing images of Petra, Jordan pop up all over the place. It was a sign that lead me to booking my trip. Even the night before my trip, I was channel surfing with my family and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade came on right when they were about to enter Petra. I happened to be watching it with my niece and nephew so it was really cool to show them where I was going.

Packing List
Never leave home without my camera, adapters, and these days a few battery packs to ensure that I never miss a shot. I could not have survived the miles of walking, climbing, and trekking through the desert without good hiking shoes. Also, during this time of year the weather was chilly and my puffy jacket kept me warm throughout the adventure.

Trip Highlights?
In Egypt: Sailing down the Nile on a felucca (a traditional Egyptian sailboat). We camped on the shore of the river while singing and dancing around our campfire with our new Nubian friends from the local village – that was a memory I will never forget.

In Jordan: Several nights were spent sleeping under the stars in a Bedouin camp in Little Petra. Sharing stories by the fire, singing, and drinking tea with my new friends was definitely a highlight.

What Made This Trip so Special?
The region’s ancient stories and heritage, as well as the striking landscapes. But what stood out the most was the hospitality. People were so kind, full of laughter, and always down to have a cup of tea with a complete stranger.

Where Do You Want to Go Next?
All signs are pointing me to Greece and Portugal in the fall. Possibly Colombia in the summer! But then again, I could find myself in Hawaii very soon.
