As the ski season commences and athletes prepare for the World Cup and Winter X Games, it’s hard to keep track of all the awesomeness out there. Here are some particularly amazing skiers to watch this season:
The first skier to ever win two gold medals in the same winter X‑Games, Bobby Brown is all about big air. The first to execute multiple variations of the triple flip or triple cork, Brown is a great man to watch whenever there is a jump involved. In the 2014 season, Brown will be the man who has the hops.
The first woman to be on the cover of Freeskier Magazine, Lynsey Dyer is the queen of big mountain skiing. While she is not on the Olympic track, she certainly keeps the spirit of skiing and adventure alive. She has won many freestyle skiing competitions, started her own non-profit for girls, and has starred in dozens of Warren Miller movies. She is a woman to watch in 2014 because quite frankly, she is always having fun.
A new feature of Warren Miller’s films, Keely Kelleher is a woman who wears many hats. A talented skier, filmmaker, and athlete, she is currently studying for a degree in Business and a degree in physical therapy. This year she was one of the start athletes in “Ticket to Ride,” and is considered one of the skiers to watch this season.
As brand ambassador for Patagonia, and a well-known bad ass, it isn’t surprising that Pep Fujas made this list. Young, goofy, and always smiling this skier is known not only for his epic ability to catch air, but also for his stellar attitude. Last year he sat out the X‑Games on account of a knee injury, but this year he will be back in full swing. Known for his innovative tricks and love of competition, Pep is definitely someone to look for this ski season.
Dubbed “Super Jules,” by her Olympic teammates, Julia Mancuso is the most decorated American Alpine skier. She has won three Olympic gold medals, and plans on winning many more. She is fierce, determined and has not faced the same injuries or setbacks that many have in her world. She is a strong competitor and is definitely someone to keep an eye out for in 2014.
Shane McConkey’s protégé, friend and partner-in-crime, JT Holmes is a man on the move. Known for his incredible ability to basejump without fear and with incredible speed, Holmes is facing his best ski season yet. He has recently been apart of a McConkey documentary that honors his mentor and highlights his life. It is clear that this is a man whose passion and love for skiing encompasses everything he does.
