Hi-Tec: Hi-Tec was founded in 1974 in the appropriately named village of Shoeburyness, in Essex, England. The company first put its name on the footwear map with a pair of lightweight athletic shoes designed for playing squash. The Hi-Tec Squash remains the best-selling sports shoe model in Britain to this day. The company has since branched out, building a reputation for itself as a maker of quality outdoor footwear and apparel. In 1978, Hi-Tec introduced the lightweight hiking boot category to the United States. Today at The Clymb, we’re excited to be offering members exclusive pricing on Men’s and Women’s Hi-Tec footwear. They Tazed him, Bro: Did you know? Today is iconic big wall climber Ammon McNeely’s 42nd birthday. McNeely is something of a hero in his corner of the outdoors world. In addition to holding the most speed climbing world records and first one-day ascents on El Capitan in Yosemite, he is a leading advocate for the opening of America’s national parks to BASE jumping. European countries such as Switzerland and Norway allow the activity but the National Park Service strictly forbids it despite endorsing activities such as hang gliding. In 2010, McNeely was tased by a park ranger in Yosemite after making a civil disobedience jump in the park.
