Midsummer Night’s Meme: Did you know? Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. For thousands of years, different cultures have celebrated the day and passed their traditions on to future generations who have tweaked it appropriately to fit their needs. Mostly their celebrations involved drinking and feasting and lighting stuff on fire. Ancient pagans loved to party as much as the next culture. They referred to the summer solstice as Midsummer and would celebrate by building gigantic bonfires and getting drunk on mead before jumping through them. The goal wasn’t to be brotastic. The men and women believed that their crops would grow as high as they were able to jump. It didn’t work. The mead did though! Do you have any plans for ye olde longest day of the year?
