Shop Geigerrig on TheClymb.comGEIGERRIG is claiming that their latest hydration packs don’t suck. It’s not a bold claim. The squeeze ball pressurization allows you to spray water out of the nozzle. It’s a game-changing idea, but some ideas are better in a lab than they are in real life. So fellow copywriter Zach Horn and I took a spin on our mountain bikes in nearby Forest Park to put two different GEIGERRIG packs to the test.

GEIGERRIG Rig Guardian (reviewed by Zach)

Design: The first thing I noticed about the GEIGERRIG Rig Guardian was its looks. It seemed stout, like it could take some major punishment. The unique design sandwiches an H20 bladder between two ultra-protective plastic shells that not only protect your hydration source but can also protect your spine. Slipping it on inspired confidence, like I was wearing a suit of futuristic armor.

Fit: The fit was streamlined, ergonomic, and supportive. Riding, my movement wasn’t constrained in the slightest and I’d go so far as to say that my posture even improved while in the saddle. The ability to snug the plastic plates together with a simple webbing system really made for a compact unit. I felt like I could move fast while wearing this pack.

Functionality: Let’s talk about Geigerrig’s patented pressurized spray system. It’s got power. With a few pumps of the attached pump ball, I’d get about 15 seconds of continual spray, making it super easy to get an ample amount of water in me. It didn’t feel like I had to suck my brain through my nose in order to quench my thirst. It was even powerful enough to blast my face in order to cool off. This was technology I didn’t even know I was missing out on and am not sure if I could live without in the future.

GEIGERRIG RIG 1210 (reviewed by Tim)

Design: The RIG is the size of a small daypack. When I first filled up the H20 bladder I thought it might compromise all space within the pack, but it didn’t. The pack has three external pockets that expand outward instead of in, so no matter how much you inflate the bladder you still have room for snacks, layers, and a lock.

Best Use: Given its size, durability, and function I’d say this pack would best be used mountain biking or day hiking. It felt great while riding, and the webbing chest and hip straps ensured that it stayed in place.

Pressurized Hydration System: The pressurized drinking hose is what this pack is all about, and it’s really cool. Pressurizing the bladder is super easy to do while biking, and it makes a noticeable difference to drink without sucking. If you get a little overzealous inflating the bladder, as I did, and shoot water with surprising force against your tonsils, there’s a pressure release valve that solves that problem in an instant.

We’re always excited to feature GEIGERRIG on The Clymb. We can tell you guys dig them, too, from all the requests via Facebook and Twitter, asking when they’ll be returning.

GEIGERRIG returns to The Clymb next week, and in case you’re a new member or just emerging from under a rock, we’ve compiled the top 5 reasons you should snatch up one of the company’s hydration packs. Behold:

#5 — Because No One Wants To Hear, “You Suck.”

GEIGERRIG’s pressurized system means no slowing down your activity to drink. Just gently bite down on the valve and let the spray action do the rest. This means you’re hydrating more effectively and when you need to, not gulping down water due to extreme thirst.

#4 — Because You Love Your Friends, But Not THAT Much

Sharing is caring, but do you really want to share the remnants of your friend’s energy bar after he takes a swig of your water? We didn’t think so. With GEIGERRIG’s spray technology you’ll never have to worry about swapping spit, backwash, or other things you don’t want to think about when you’re just trying to be a good friend.

#3 — Because Playing Hard is Dirty Work

GEIGERRIG’s pressurized spray system allows easy cleanup of muddy bike tires and sweaty brows. It’s also ideal for rinsing off sandy feet in the parking lot, cleaning off minor injuries, and giving your dirty gear a quick spray-down before putting it in your car.

#2 — Because Cleaning is a Breeze

The last thing you want to deal with is a hydration pack that’s a pain to break down and clean. And if you don’t feel like doing it, you end up with a grody, mildewy pack. GEIGERRIG’s slide seal top (versus a screw cap), reversible bladder, and quick-release valves for drinking tube and power bulbs allows you to take it apart easily and pop it in the dishwasher.

#1 — Because They’re the Bomb

No, really. To make sure your GEIGERRIG pack can meet the demands of your active lifestyle, they really put those babies to the test:

For more GEIGGERIG test videos, click here.

We’re sure you’re convinced. GEIGERRIG will see you next week, April 30th at 9am PST, with their award-winnng packs and a High Adventure Passport granting you access and deals to the some of the best resorts.

We all know the importance of staying hydrated during physical activity and that dehydration can severely affect performance. What is often forgotten is that over-hydration can be just as bad. Hydrating properly isn’t just restricted to drinking enough water, but involves recognizing when your body needs to hydrate to remain performing at optimal levels.

To make it as easy as possible to remain hydrated while engaging in physical activities, we’re bringing back some of our favorite brands whose names are synonymous with performance hydration – each with unique features to make hydrating a breeze…

  • GEIGERRIG – Gear Junkie’s “Best in Show” at this year’s Outdoor Retailer
  • Klean Kanteen – As committed to environmental stewardship as they are proper hydration
  • Stanley – Built to last for generations

… and many more, featuring water bottles, water bladders, and runners’ belts. Shop our hydration event here.

This is a special Saturday sales event, but you can still get our limited time $4.98 shipping on each order. And adding a The Clymb t‑shirt to your order still qualifies it for FREE shipping.

Don’t forget: You have until Monday 2/6 midnight EST to vote for your favorite action photo.

It seems I may have been a bit premature (perhaps to get the weekend here sooner?) in yesterday’s blog when I teased that our final GEIGERRIG event of 2011 would be this Wednesday.

It’s actually today.

This is a good thing because that means you can get your hands on their innovative, spray-action hydration packs that much sooner. I did get everything else right, though: Their spray-action, bite-don’t-suck valves mean that you can hydrate more frequently and effectively. It also makes cleaning off gear, cuts and scrapes, and sweaty brows a breeze. Sharing is also simple and clean, with no worry of germ or food transference should you want to share a drink with your pet or running partner.

If you missed out on our previous GEIGERRIG event, now’s the perfect time to correct that. This will be our last GEIGERRIG event of 2011, so don’t sleep on this one. Get your GEIGERRIG at exclusive Clymb member pricing of up to 50% off here.

Every GEIGERRIG pack comes with a SKULLCANDY MOUNTAIN PASSPORT, filled with discount passes to some of the best resorts in the U.S. and Canada. Simply register the code inside your passport at the GEIGERRIG site and then redeem the passes at one of the participating resorts. In most cases, using one pass pays for the pack. In every case, using more than one pass makes you a profit.

Of course, we couldn’t offer up such a great deal without featuring the ultra hot headphones and earbuds from Skullcandy that are like medicine for your ears. Score those and Skullcandy tees/sweatshirt at up to 50% off, here.

Don’t forget: if you pick up an exclusive The Clymb tee, your entire order ships for free. Stop by Facebook or Twitter if you have any questions or you need an invite to shop The Clymb.

We’ve got good news, bad news, and really great news. Which would you like first?

I’ll start with the good news: This Wednesday we’re having another GEIGERRIG event! You may remember our first event featuring these spray action hydration systems that allow you to not only hydrate frequently and easily, but it allows you to conveniently clean your sweaty brow, dirty gear, or scuffed knee. If you want to share water with your hiking mate or pet, GEIGERRIG’s spray action valves make sharing more hygienic: no sucking means no grody transference. These packs were such a hit, we had to bring them back. You loved them, and they’ve been spotted accompanying quite a few Clymb employees on their runs and travels.

So, what’s the great news? GEIGERRIG has generously included a SKULLCANDY MOUNTAIN PASSPORT with each pack. Inside the SKULLCANDY MOUNTAIN PASSPORT are free mountain passes to resorts all over the United States and Canada.  In almost every case, the use of just one pass pays for the pack entirely.  In every case, you’ll end up making a profit if you use more than one of the passes.

Simply register the Passport on the GEIGERRIG homepage using the special code that is in the book.  Then, take the book to the ticket windows of the resorts and redeem the vouchers for a free pass. It’s like buying a BMW and getting an EXXON gas card for three times the value of the card.

Some of the participating resorts include Tahoe’s, New York’s Hunter Mountain, and Canada’s Big White Ski Resort.

You’re probably now wondering, “Well, what’s the bad news?” This will be The Clymb’s last GEIGERRIG event of 2011. So, if you loved your GEIGERRIG purchase last time and was thinking about getting one as a gift for the holidays, now’s the time.

As we process the GEIGERRIG orders and prepare them for shipment, we wanted to take a moment to thank you all for not just your purchases, but your enthusiasm around the event. We enjoyed getting to know the GEIGERRIG brand and the people behind it, and so it was with great excitement and confidence that we offered their hydration systems to you. From the sales and your communications, we know that you feel the same way.

GEIGERRIG is committed to exemplary customer service; the kind of service where they’ll return phone calls no matter the hour to ensure we’re able to provide our members with all the information they need to make an informed and confident purchase. And as a part of that commitment, they wanted to provide you with the personal email addresses of their President and Vice President should you need to contact them for any reason. They stand by their product and look forward to providing you with the kind of customer service everyone should receive, but rarely gets.

Again, thank you all for a great event!

You’ve probably surmised from our Facebook and Twitter posts that we’re having our first ever GEIGERRIG brand event this week, and that we’re very much looking forward to it. GEIGERRIG has made some innovative changes in the way hydration systems function.

Prior to making any offer to you, we here at The Clymb wanted to test the gear for ourselves to see if it fit its Gear Of The Year billing by Camping Life Magazine and the declaration by Dan Larson of that  “Bottom line, this is the best hydration system I’ve found.” And, after some thorough testing of a GEIGERRIG Ballistic RIG 500 pack, we can tell you that there are genuine reasons why these GEIGERRIG Hydration Packs are taking the hydration market by storm, and why we agree that they are the best hydration systems available today —  an endorsement that we make whole heartedly and without any reservation.

To give you a sneak peek into what makes these hydration systems unique, we spoke with GEIGERRIG’s Vice President of Operations, Bob Geiger.

The Clymb: A common request of hydration packs is that they do more than just hydrate. How does GEIGERRIG answer that request?

Bob Geiger: Great question.  Because you have to suck the water out of a traditional hydration pack, the water is only accessible for drinking by the person carrying the water.  That is, of course, unless everyone wants to suck on the wrap their sweaty, salty lips around the same bite valve and for sucking water. With the patented spray action of a GEIGERRIG, the water effortlessly sprays out providing water, on demand, for cleaning out a wound, hydrating your dog, sharing with a friend, cleaning your gear and spraying the sweat off of your face and body. With a GEIGERRIG, the water is conveniently available for any use that you need or desire…  including pumping water through a plug-and-play, in-line water filter for refilling in rivers, streams, lakes or ponds.

TC: There’s been some concern that pressurized packs mean less room for anything else you might need to carry. Need this be a concern with a GEIGERRIG?

BG: Not so.  You simply load your hydration engine into the back of your pack and then load all of the gear that you are planning to carry. Once your gear is loaded, then you pressurize the system, and the bladder pressurizes around whatever contents you have in your pack. The more gear you’ve loaded into your pack, the less pumps necessary to achieve your desired level of patented spray from your GEIGERRIG.

TC: How does GEIGERRIG address some of the hygiene concerns when it comes to using hydration systems, particularly sharing with others?

BG: Most often, we enjoy outdoor activity with friends and family.  Having the ability to share water without having to swap bits of granola bar and other nastiness deposited on the end of your bite valve is essential.  The patented spray action enables your GEIGERRIG to provide cool, clean, refreshing water and spray to you, your friends and your family. It also is great for providing water to others who you may encounter along the trail who could use a little assistance and aid. Its always good to be able to hygienically render aid and to help others.

TC: What are some things GEIGERRIG has done to make hydration pack cleaning and maintenance easier?

BG: We have ensured that our patented, game-changing hydration engines have a slide top that provide a wide mouth opening for easy cleaning and drying.  In fact, the GEIGERRIG Hydration Engine can be easily turned inside out and cleaned in the top shelf of the dishwasher.  Just reaching inside, grab the bottom of the bladder and pull it inside out.  Drop it in the dishwasher, and your bladder is clean and ready for its next use.  So even if you left your hydration bladder in the car or the garage for a few weeks, and it has fungus and growth growing in it, all you need to do is put it in the dishwasher, and off you go.

TC: What kind of testing process do you use?

BG: There are all kinds of lab tests and scientific methods used to test the strength, durability, and water tightness of the GEIGERRIG Hydration Engine.  However, our favorite tests are the field tests where we detonate bombs placed in our packs to test the durability of our hydration bladders and throw packs out of trucks at 100 mph to test for durability and toughness.

Check out GEIGERRIG’s contained bomb test:

And this 100mph rough asphalt impact test (looked like a lot of fun!):

Our GEIGERRIG event begins tomorrow at 9am PST. Get there early! And check out our Facebook and Twitter pages for more photos, videos and info on GEIGERRIG today.
