Tiphareth Star — Hair­styl­ist, sun seek­er, and explor­er. I was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii on the island of Oahu, and cur­rent­ly reside in Los Ange­les, California.

Why Egypt & Jordan?
I lit­er­al­ly kept see­ing images of Petra, Jor­dan pop up all over the place. It was a sign that lead me to book­ing my trip. Even the night before my trip, I was chan­nel surf­ing with my fam­i­ly and Indi­ana Jones and The Last Cru­sade came on right when they were about to enter Petra. I hap­pened to be watch­ing it with my niece and nephew so it was real­ly cool to show them where I was going.

Pack­ing List
Nev­er leave home with­out my cam­era, adapters, and these days a few bat­tery packs to ensure that I nev­er miss a shot. I could not have sur­vived the miles of walk­ing, climb­ing, and trekking through the desert with­out good hik­ing shoes. Also, dur­ing this time of year the weath­er was chilly and my puffy jack­et kept me warm through­out the adventure.

Trip High­lights?
In Egypt: Sail­ing down the Nile on a feluc­ca (a tra­di­tion­al Egypt­ian sail­boat). We camped on the shore of the riv­er while singing and danc­ing around our camp­fire with our new Nubian friends from the local vil­lage – that was a mem­o­ry I will nev­er forget.

In Jor­dan: Sev­er­al nights were spent sleep­ing under the stars in a Bedouin camp in Lit­tle Petra. Shar­ing sto­ries by the fire, singing, and drink­ing tea with my new friends was def­i­nite­ly a highlight.

What Made This Trip so Special?
The region’s ancient sto­ries and her­itage, as well as the strik­ing land­scapes. But what stood out the most was the hos­pi­tal­i­ty. Peo­ple were so kind, full of laugh­ter, and always down to have a cup of tea with a com­plete stranger.

Where Do You Want to Go Next?
All signs are point­ing me to Greece and Por­tu­gal in the fall. Pos­si­bly Colom­bia in the sum­mer! But then again, I could find myself in Hawaii very soon.
