IN OTHER NEWS:

New Route on Makalu: Did you know? On October 17th (that’s today!), 2008, Vince Anderson and Marko Prezelj climbed a new route up Makalu, otherwise known as Kangchungtse, a Himalayan peak with a summit elevation of 24,850 ft. They left their basecamp to climb all day through fierce winds and gathering storm clouds. The two climbers needed to take four breaths for each step, and when they reached the summit at sunset they did not celebrate, they hugged each other and then began their descent to their basecamp in the dark.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Ötzi On The Rocks: Did you know? On September 19 (that’s today!), 1991, two German tourists hiking off path in the Ötztal Alps in Northern Italy discovered a body frozen in an icy field. Dating back to 3,300 BCE, the mummy proved to be Europe’s oldest and most well preserved artifact of the Copper Age. He became known the world over as “Ötzi” the iceman. Offering an unprecedented look at Chalcolithic Europeans, Ötzi has been extensively examined, X‑rayed, measured, and dated. The prehistoric man sported tattoos, was possibly murdered, is allegedly cursed, and is the inspiration for a footwear company named OTZShoes that is going to be (Shhhhhhh!) featured tomorrow on The Clymb.

Verbier in Switzerland is known for attracting some of the best riders from all over the world. It seems only fitting that the *Freeride World Tour was born there as well. Back in the 1970’s, some of the greatest ski legends wore the first Powderhorn jackets at Verbier – legends like Ace Kvale and John Falkiner. Things have come full circle as Powderhorn is now one of the sponsors of the Freeride World Tour 2012, a 3‑month long tour of the greatest riders at some of the world’s best resorts.

Today we welcome Powderhorn to The Clymb with their snow-proof outerwear and apparel. Like the riders of Freeride World Tour, Powderhorn continues to push the future of ski apparel to the next level.

Also, leave your mark on the mountain with Kombi gloves. From the Olympic podium on the hands of Nancy Greene, to their current team lineup featuring some of the best freeskiers and snowboarders, Kombi’s philosophy to fuse fashion and textile technology is clearly reflected.
