IN OTHER NEWS:
The Half Mile Destroyer: Did you know? On October 11th (that’s today!), 2011, Mary Keitany of Kenya destroyed the half-marathon record time by half a minute. Her time of 65 minutes and 50 seconds set the world record for the women’s half-marathon. Weighing 93lbs, Keitany is a lightweight running machine and has broken numerous other records, but on this day in the United Arab Emirates city of Ras Al Khaimah, Keitany became the first woman in history to break the 66-minute mark.
Fjällräven: Swedish for ‘arctic fox,’ Fjällräven creates sleek-looking technical outdoor apparel that’s tough, made for the mountains and tundra of northern Sweden.

IN OTHER NEWS:
Heptathlon Hero: Did you know?
On September 24th (that’s today!), 1988, while competing in the Seoul Olympic Games, Jackie Joyner-Kersee set the women’s record for heptathlon. The seven competitions within the event include: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash, long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. Joyner-Kersee is only one of three women to ever earn over 7,000 points, and her mark of 7,291 remains the highest score of all time. And, she accomplished all her feats without the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
Moment: Moment is awesome. Not only do they use 95% domestically sourced ingredients and Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood cores in all their skis (every pair of which they craft by hand in Reno), they also say things such as, “just like you, we’re in it for the stoke, not the scrilla” on their website. Today on The Clymb, we are stoked to be offering Men’s, Women’s, and Youth skis, ski poles, and apparel from Moment for less scrilla than you’d have to fork over at retail.
Sampson: Since 1987, Sampson components have put riders on the podium in major cycling and triathlon events. Sampson components have helped win World Championship and Olympic medals along with countless Stars and Stripes jerseys of national champions. Treat your bike (and yourself) to a champion-worthy overhaul with Sampson pedals, water bottle cages, bike frames and more on sale today for member-exclusive pricing.
Wilderness Press: Two things that will never go out of style in the face of technological distraction are the outdoors and books. Whether you’re looking to master the mountain bike, brush up on your wilderness medical skills or find the best hike in the Grand Canyon area, Wilderness Press has what you need to read. Today on The Clymb, we are excited to be offering a huge selection (over 70 titles!) of Wilderness Press books for member-exclusive pricing. Getting them weathered and respectable-looking from use is up to you.
Grand Trunk: The recipe for adventure travel isn’t too complicated: Take a pinch of curiosity, a dash of grit and then shake it all up in a foreign land. When the smoke clears, you’ll have an unforgettable experience. And, if you do it right, you’ll also be sporting a few things from Grand Trunk—maker of the best gear for explorers of the road less traveled. If you’re the type of person who prefers adventure travel to a trip to the timeshare then you won’t want to miss out on this event. Throw a dart at the map and step into the unknown with Grand Trunk hammocks, travel accessories, and more for member-exclusive pricing today at The Clymb.
GRAND IDEA: Did you know? Relationships hatched with perfect strangers on the travel trail don’t always lead to dead ends. In 2001, the future founders of Grand Trunk crossed paths and exchanged contact information in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand while on separate backpacking trips. When John, from Seattle, moved to Kevin’s native Chicago a year later, he sent Kevin an email and the two met for a drink. As the beers and memories flowed, the two travelers decided to set out on another adventure. They would start selling hammocks, like the ones they’d grown fond of in SE Asia, to travelers. The seed was sewn and Grand Trunk was born. The company has since grown to be the leading name in adventure travel gear and accessories.

Today, we’re pleased to be offering Men’s and Women’s Spyder technical apparel. Don’t miss out! Hesitation would be toxic on this one.

CELTEK: Pack it, roll it, and then pocket it for the lift, because that’s where it’ll be the best. About halfway up, take that sucker out. Palming it in your glove feels good, doesn’t it? Savor the feeling of mischievous anticipation. Now throw that snowball as hard as you can at your beginner-level friend, who is pulling himself off the ground just below the lift. Stay warm while making turns or mountain mayhem with artistically designed CELTEK performance snowboarding gloves, mittens, beanies, and facemasks, on sale now.
Did you know? Spyder once almost got KA-POW’d by Spider Man. In an article celebrating Australian skier and Spyder athlete Steven Lee’s 1985 Alpine World Cup win, Sports Illustrated referred to the athlete as “Spider Man.” It’s a dream for a brand to be featured in such a high-profile magazine but for Spyder, the honor soon turned into a nightmare. Marvel Comics sent the company a legal warning of trademark infringement. Before Marvel finally dropped action, Spyder founder David Jacobs believed his business, still relatively young, was doomed. Like a real Peter Parker, Lee went on to briefly take a new identity, working with Jackie Chan as a lead stunt skier and snowmobiler in the 1996 film, First Strike.

I was bamboozled, hoodwinked, and led astray. OK, so really it was the crossing of wires that had me tease “bikes” on Twitter and Facebook yesterday, but I tend to be a bit dramatic.
