You may have read about our partnership with GreenShipping. We talk about it a lot. Maybe it’s because they’re good people doing the right thing, maybe because visiting their office gives us the chance to spend an afternoon in Hood River (quite possibly heaven on earth), or maybe it’s because they’re another Oregon start-up trying to build something from scratch. We relate. In any event, I wanted to share a little about their operation and the people behind it. GreenShipping was started earlier this year by Ken Whiteman with one idea in mind: to give consumers and businesses access to an easy, cost effective, and accurate way to make shipping a green process. Amen to that. As our shopping habits become more connected to the web, these guys are connecting our dollars to the development of renewable energy sources.
GreenShipping is making all of this happen through a highly sophisticated carbon calculator that analyzes a package’s weight, size, destination and mode of transport. A calculation is made and credits are paid through GreenShipping to The Bonneville Environmental Foundation. BEF is a non-profit organization investing in new wind power projects that replace power generated by dirtier sources like coal-fired power plants. The offsets are independently certified through Green‑e® Climate, a non-profit consumer protection program that ensures that these offsets represent real, permanent, and beyond business-as-usual greenhouse gas emission reductions. The Clymb chooses GreenShipping to ensure that every order we ship is carbon neutral.
