I was for­tu­nate to have been able to sneak away last week (while the team here worked hard) to take in the Win­ter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

I saw the open­ing Open­ing Cer­monies, Ski Jump, Biathlon, Luge, Down­hill, Slalom and Snow­board Halfpipe.….and had a cou­ple of amaz­ing blue bird pow­der days!

It is dif­fi­cult  to describe the incred­i­ble sense of pride and emo­tion I felt expe­ri­enc­ing an Olympics in my home town.  I can not even imag­ine how much more mag­ni­fied it must be to actu­al­ly com­pete and rep­re­sent your country.

While it was great to see the best ath­letes in the world com­pete, what real­ly inspired me was the incred­i­ble feel­ing of a tru­ly glob­al com­mu­ni­ty.  I have nev­er expe­ri­enced so many hap­py peo­ple all togeth­er in one place.  There was def­i­nite­ly a sense of indi­vid­ual nation­al pride as peo­ple from all over the globe came to Whistler to cheer on their countrymen.

But even the hard­core nation­al flag draped fans would cheer loud­ly for the best per­for­mances — no mat­ter what the ath­letes nation­al­i­ty, polit­i­cal views, eth­nic­i­ty, cul­ture — it was all about the sport.  It just made me hope that some­day the World can peace­ful­ly come together.….like it has for 16 days in Vancouver.
