I was fortunate to have been able to sneak away last week (while the team here worked hard) to take in the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
I saw the opening Opening Cermonies, Ski Jump, Biathlon, Luge, Downhill, Slalom and Snowboard Halfpipe.….and had a couple of amazing blue bird powder days!
It is difficult to describe the incredible sense of pride and emotion I felt experiencing an Olympics in my home town. I can not even imagine how much more magnified it must be to actually compete and represent your country.
While it was great to see the best athletes in the world compete, what really inspired me was the incredible feeling of a truly global community. I have never experienced so many happy people all together in one place. There was definitely a sense of individual national pride as people from all over the globe came to Whistler to cheer on their countrymen.
But even the hardcore national flag draped fans would cheer loudly for the best performances — no matter what the athletes nationality, political views, ethnicity, culture — it was all about the sport. It just made me hope that someday the World can peacefully come together.….like it has for 16 days in Vancouver.
