The Summit is an award-winning 2013 documentary that follows the story of 25 climbers who in 2008 attempted to summit K2, a Himalayan monster that’s considered one the world’s most perilous peaks.
K2 is only 237 meters shorter than Mt. Everest and one out of every four climbers who attempts its summit dies. The climbing is brutal with steep technical sections on ice pitches and unpredictable weather. Some years its summit goes completely untouched.
The Summit, which picked up the Editing Award in the World Cinema Documentary category at the Sundance Film Festival, attempts to explain why K2 has a reputation as The Savage Mountain and explain what happened on that fateful day in August 2008 when 11 climbers died attempting the fabled peak.
