There are a num­ber of rea­sons why bicy­cle com­mut­ing is the dom­i­nant form of trans­porta­tion in the Nether­lands. The infra­struc­ture for cycling is amaz­ing with over 21,000-miles of bike paths, some of which are even heat­ed in the win­ter months to keep them free of ice. No mat­ter the infra­struc­ture, what it real­ly boils down to is the ded­i­ca­tion of the cyclists who ped­al to their des­ti­na­tions and face the ele­ments day after day.
